Basic Information
Description
Founded in 1930. The founder reportedly started it inspired by the idea of a Latin Quarter, so it has been a cafe from the beginning. The large table and chairs were crafted by Tatsuaki Kuroda before he was named a Living National Treasure, and the building itself feels steeped in history. No account of Kyoto's cafes would be complete without it. That said, the principled, near-perfect service it was once known for seems to have faded lately, which is a pity.
