Description
Founded in 963 by the monk Kuya as Saiko-ji Temple. The second abbot, Chushin, renamed it Rokuharamitsu-ji. It later became a Shingon sect temple.
The principal image, a standing Eleven-Headed Kannon, was carved by Kuya himself. The treasure hall houses the famous statues of Kuya Shonin and the reputed portrait statue of Taira no Kiyomori, both designated National Treasures.
