Description

In 994 (Shoreki 5), when an epidemic swept through Kyoto, a plague shrine was built on Funaoka-yama to contain it — that's said to be the origin of this shrine. There's a stone enshrined here called "Ahokensan" — you first tap it three times and lift it, then stroke it three times while making a wish and lift it again. If it feels lighter the second time, your wish will come true.
In front of the gate, two aburi-mochi (charcoal-grilled rice cake) shops sit side by side, and that spot alone feels like a time slip into the past.
