Description
Originally the villa of Minamoto no Toru, it later became Fujiwara no Michinaga's retreat before his son Fujiwara no Yorimichi converted it into a temple.
The Phoenix Hall was built in 1053.
It is currently jointly managed by a Tendai and a Jodo sect temple.
There are several parking lots in the area, but be warned — some of them are coin-operated lots that charge surprisingly high rates. Check before you park.
