Description

Head temple of the Rinzai Shokoku-ji school, ranked second among Kyoto's Five Mountains.
Founded by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu.
The Dharma Hall, with its irimoya-style hip-and-gable roof and hon-kawara tile roofing, is said to be the oldest surviving Dharma Hall in Japan. Inside, the ceiling features the "Coiled Dragon" painting (Banryu-zu) by Kano Mitsunobu.
