Description
Built in 1641 by the literati Ishikawa Jozan as his personal retreat.
The thatched-roof study contains the "Room of the Poetry Immortals," where portraits of 36 Chinese poets (painted by Kano Tanyu) hang on the walls. The dry landscape garden, with its beautifully trimmed azalea bushes, also features wisteria, irises, and asters blooming through the seasons. The shishi-odoshi (deer scare) — also called sozu — is said to have been invented by Jozan himself.
