Description
One of Kyoto's oldest shrines, dedicated to the gods of bountiful harvests.
The two enshrined deities are Tamayori-hime-no-mikoto and Kamotaketsunomi-no-mikoto. Tamayori-hime is the mother of Wakeikazuchi-no-mikoto, the deity of Kamigamo Shrine.
The shrine grounds sit within the Tadasu no Mori — a primeval forest thick with zelkova and cypress trees.
The main hall consists of two buildings, east and west, with cypress bark roofing in the nagare-zukuri style, considered the prototype of shrine architecture.
