Description
The area along the Myojin-gawa river that flows in front of Kamigamo Jinja.
Shrine priest residences (shake) line the street, and around 30 still remain today. The area is designated as a National Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. At the Nishimura Family Residence, you can see a garden said to have been created by a Kamigamo Jinja chief priest during the Heian period. A small stream for the Kyokusui-no-En poetry ceremony and the Idogami-yama mound still remain.
