Description
Also known as Saga Shaka-do. It began when a statue of Shaka Nyorai brought back from Tang China was enshrined within the mountain villa of Minamoto no Toru.
The principal image, a standing Shaka Nyorai, is done in the distinctive "Seiryo-ji style" — the original is said to be a copy of the statue that King Udayana of India had made out of longing for Shakyamuni Buddha.
The dry landscape garden in the main hall is attributed to Kobori Enshu.
