Description
An auxiliary shrine of Kamigamo Jinja.
The grounds contain Ota-no-sawa, a marsh where irises (kakitsubata) — celebrated in verse by the poet Fujiwara no Shunzei during the Heian period — bloom profusely. Mid-May is the best time to see them.
The irises wilt from the top down, so it's best to go early in the blooming season.
