Description

Founded by Kakushin-ni, the daughter of Shinran Shonin. The head temple of the Jodo Shinshu (True Pure Land) sect.
The Goeido (Founder's Hall) has stood since its construction in 1636, and inside it houses a wooden statue of the sect's founder, Shinran Shonin.
The Amida-do enshrines the principal image, a wooden statue of Amida Nyorai.
The sliding-door paintings in the Shoin study hall (by the Kano school) are a sight to see. Other highlights include the Hiunkaku — one of Kyoto's three famous pavilions (the other two being the Golden and Silver Pavilions) — and many other examples of Momoyama-period culture.
