Description
A manga museum housed in a former elementary school.
It's jointly operated by Kyoto City and Kyoto Seika University (which has a manga department), holding 300,000 items in its collection. About 40,000 volumes line the shelves and are open to the public, including foreign-language editions of Japanese manga. In the courtyard you'll see lots of people sprawled out reading — this isn't necessarily because the courtyard is so pleasant, but partly because there are almost no proper chairs or sofas for reading inside. Also, there aren't many new releases, so it's not really suited for reading specific new manga the way you would at a manga cafe.
