Description
Dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, it's famous as the shrine of the god of learning.
The roofs of the main hall and worship hall have an elaborate interlocking style called yatsumune-zukuri.
The plum blossoms from February to March are also famous — "When the east wind blows, send me your fragrance, plum blossoms; though your master is gone, do not forget the spring" is the poem Michizane composed when he was exiled to Dazaifu.
On the 25th of every month, a flea market called "Tenjin-san" is held, and the main hall is illuminated on these nights.
