Description
Along with Shimogamo Jinja, one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto.
Between the first and second torii gates, a lawn stretches out with the shrine buildings standing beyond.
The Main Hall and the Gonden (Auxiliary Hall) are identical in form, facing each other from east to west, built in the cypress-bark roof, gabled style.
In front of the Hosodono hall, two beautifully symmetrical cone-shaped sand mounds called tate-zuna stand side by side.
Two streams flow through the grounds — the Myojin-gawa and the Omono-imi-gawa.
