Originally built as the retirement villa "Hataeda Rikyu" for Emperor Go-Mizunoo.
The dry landscape garden uses Mount Hiei as borrowed scenery. Due to surrounding development, the view of Mount Hiei from the garden has been getting narrower year by year. And apparently a condominium is about to go up right in front of the garden. To see the moss at its best, go after it rains. If there's been a long dry spell, the moss turns reddish.
